Our History!

C.  McGee’s Deli started in 1987 at 708 North First Street in the Itasca Building by a young couple with a simple dream- to be the Cheers of the deli business.

The business grew with a lot of help from family, new found friends in the neighborhood and a great staff. We outgrew our space by 1996 and expanded to a second location at 800 North Washington. For a while we ran both delis, but the addition of children to the Oyen family called for a simpler life and we decided to focus on the 800 location.

Our business thrived and we were yet again outgrowing our space.

Once again we began dreaming. What if we had a full kitchen and we could have great daily specials like Ahi Tuna, Flank Steak Sandwiches, Chicken Enchiladas and Cubans. The children could come on board and make great cookies- we could find a pastry chef to make wonderful pastries. So we were made a fabulous offer by a great landlord and once again we were on the move - this time to 901 North Third Street. We are a bit hidden away (we like to say you have to pass the IQ test to find us now) but still people came. We call ourselves the best kept secret in the warehouse district, but we hope you come and find us!

This year we will celebrate our 32ND ANNIVERSARY in the Northloop / Warehouse District - we love this neighborhood and are proud to have been here to watch all the wonderful changes.

We want to express a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us over the years and extend a heartfelt invitation to come on in if you haven’t yet!
